In the fourth round of the DELO EHF Champions League, Győri Audi ETO KC visited Odense in Denmark. The first half was dominated by our team, thanks to Solberg's saves and solid defence the teams went into the break with a five-goal lead. In the second half, Győr's confident performance continued, and in a high quality match we won 31 - 26 in Denmark.
Crina Pintea did not even travel with the squad to Denmark, as she suffered a muscle injury in the Romanian national team's European Championship qualifying match, but Estelle Nze Minko recovered from her injury and was available for the match. Ambros Martín chose the six of Schatzl, Hansen, Oftedal, Brattset, Kristiansen, Lukács and Solberg. The first goal of the match came five minutes later, when Schatzl scored for the Danes (1 - 0). After ten minutes the team was leading by three goals, to 6 - 3. Thanks to a great goalkeeping performance and excellent defence, our team was leading to 9 - 6 after 16 minutes. After the home team called a timeout, Odense came close to equalizing thanks to a double man penalty, but finally our team stabilized the lead. Substitutes Minko, Blohm and Ryu got into the game with goals. Finally, Győr ended the period with a five-goal lead, 16 - 11.
The second half started with a Brattset goal and in the 37th minute our team was leading to 20 - 14. In the 42nd minute, Stine Oftedal's full-court goal made the difference between the two teams seven goals. Our defence continued to be excellent, and after 15 minutes we were leading by eight goals to 26 - 18. The teams went into the final period with a six goal lead (27 - 21). In the last minutes our team kept their confident lead and finally we won by 5 goals against Odense.
Ambros Martín: "It is always a challenge to play against Odense, but overall we played a good match. The girls enjoyed the game and it showed. Everything went as planned. We played an intense game all the way."
Estelle Nze Minko: "We knew it was going to be a tough match in Denmark, but I think overall we did well. It was important to come out in good form and take every opportunity. Not only the game but also the atmosphere was very good, thanks to our fans for coming to the game."
