At its meeting on 24th April 2020, the Executive Committee of the European Handball Federation made several decisions about european handball series taking into consideration the consequences of the situation caused by the coronavirus. Regarding our club, the panel has made a final decision regarding DELO EHF Women's Handball FINAL4.
As it is well known, in March, the EHF decided to postpone the quarter-final matches to get to FINAL4, so our team’s matches against CSM Bucharest would be postponed from early April to June. At today's meeting of the Executive Committee, it was also decided that the four semi-final matches will not be held in June either. However, it has been decided that the planned date for FINAL4 will continue to be 5-6 September 2020 and will continue to be based in Budapest.
However, no decision has yet been made as to whether the quarter-final clashes will take place at all. A statement sent to our club, which is the same as the EHF press release, states that EHF and EHF Marketing will consider playing the quarterfinals with FINAL4 so that the quarterfinals would be decided in a match on Thursday, September 3rd 2020 and they would be played in Budapest.
According to the announcement, if it would not be possible to organize FINAL4 in September 2020 due to the viral situation, EHF, together with the Hungarian Handball Federation, will look for a date in October, but then - given that the new CL season has already started - they will not play the quarterfinals, and thus the first two places of the two semi-final groups, ie Metz and Esbjerg, as well as our team, Győri Audi ETO KC and Brest will be present at the event.
Representatives of the European Handball Federation did not comment on when they would decide about playing the quarter-finals on September 3rd.
