You have been in a similar position, but this is another sport, another club. How does it feel to be the president of the Audi ETO after one month?
As I told you when I introduced myself, it is a great honor for me to be the president of a club having such results and traditions. Of course, because of the sport and the results of the near past, the requirements of both the fans and the public are much higher. Certainly, it is an inspiring factor, since to reach such goals means a great challenge. In one month I could get certain about the professionalism of the technical staff and the players. I can see the effort both the technical staff and the players make day by day. It is good to see the positive attitude in the work which shows in the everyday life, they give up everything for the work they do here. Seeing this I am also positive about the forthcoming season.
What do you consider to be the most important task as a president?
The general assembly and the managing board should work according the goals where the main tasks are being successful, transparency and being organized. Besides this, we should contribute to the success of the team with innovative methods.
You’ve mentioned the innovative methods, is it true for the youth program too?
Integrating the new technologies in the youth programs is a basic task which the coach is obliged to build in the daily work, which includes sports diet, improving the complexity of conditioning, regeneration of physical strain, improving the individual performance of the players and tracking deficiencies.
So the youth program is essential in the operation of the club.
We have more than a thousand athletes from the youngest ones to the juniors. It is a big opportunity for the club. As a president, it was important for me to sit down to discuss these matters with the leaders of the youth programs, but I’m also planning to meet the coaches and the parents to talk about the strategies. The youth program is really important for the club, so it is important to take advantage of the so called sensitive periods of the youth players. We can’t let our values be lost, we also can’t let our talented players suffer any loss because we don’t provide them with the number of matches they need or they don’t get the opportunity to improve in a higher age group. It’s important to send these players to competitions. It is of high priority to deal with this issue more in the future.
The team has arrived to the end of the training period; everybody is ready to play the first championship match. Do you think everything is okay, or there are things to be done?
I had very little time to visit the trainings, to check the preparation period. However, I meet the head coach weekly, we have talked the issues over. I would like to emphasize that I don’t intend to take sides in professional questions. I consider Ambros Martin to be a very prepared and well trained professional who enjoys the respect and the trust of the club, so I’m happy to listen to his opinion about the training level of the team. According to him, we are on the right track. Of course, as a training theory professional, I have opinion, for example about how to manage that our Olympians joined the team later and they missed the first phase which will be shown on their performance later. That is why the next period has to be planned properly so that the aerob and anaerob endurance of the players will be ideal. I’m sure that we can solve these matters and start the season according to the plans.
For sure, a president also looks forward to the start, what is your message to the ETO supporters?
I am aware of the requirements of the supporters and the club, I mean the international successes and to defend the Hungarian champion title. I am going to work to make these goals come true. In the long run, I would like to fill ETO with more and more Hungarian talented players and to have more and more age groups.
Hajrá ETO, hajrá Győr!
