After their initial loss in the Champions League, Vardar could pull themselves together, therefore our win against them seems even more important. In their second match, they outscored Hypo, 38-25, then beat the Danes twice, 33-24 and 15-25 respectively. Andrea Penezic is the top scorer of Vardar in the Champons League with 20 goals, followed by Andrea Lekic with 18.
The team played their last match in Denmark on Saturday at the same time with ours. The Macedonians were very well organized; especially their defense was outstanding in the second half. At half time the scoreboard showed 11-12, Vardar was leading by only one goal in the home of Midtjylland. However, in the second half they let their opponent score only once in the first 18 minutes and only allowed another three goals after. Due to an unlucky moment, the number one goalkeeper of the Danish team, Sabine Englert, had to leave the court and Serbian Ana Vojcic took her place which might have contributed to their defeat. Her compatriot, ex-Győr player, Andrea Lekic caused some headaches, scoring six times and handing out several nice assists.
We can be sure that Leki and her team want to show their best in the Audi Aréna on Saturday, but this is also true for our side, meaning that we can expect a great battle.
